Dear passengers! At the moment, there are road construction projects going on along all of our bus routes. These projects may cause traffic jams and delays.
Passengers must board immediately after checking in and remain on the bus for the duration of the trip. Please take care of any needs, such as water, snacks or restrooms before checking in. Once you have boarded, stepping off the bus will not be permitted. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep everyone safe.

Hi, Kate! It’s Anna. I’m calling about our plans for this Saturday. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to go to the cinema as we planned, because my parents need to visit my grandparents, and I have to babysit my younger brother. But if you are free, we could meet on Sunday instead. We could go to the 11 a.m. movie and then have lunch at the new café on Green Street. I’ve heard it’s not expensive. Please let me know if Sunday works for you. Bye!

Gillian: I’m ready, Daddy!
Father: Um… Are you travelling in shorts and a T-shirt?

Father: Tell me you’ve packed something warmer in your suitcase!
Gillian: Why would I? It’s July! We are going to California.
Father: We are going to San Francisco, and it has a climate of its own. It’s never really cold there, but it’s never really warm either.
Gillian: Come on! We live in Seattle! It’s the rainiest place in the country! And even here it’s hot now! San Francisco is 800 miles south of us! Are you telling me it’s colder there?
Father: I am. You’ve never been there, you’ll be surprised. Hey, we really need to go. Just humour me — throw in a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt in your suitcase.
Gillian: OK, I’ll grab a pair of jeans, and if it’s really as cold as you are saying, I’ll buy a pretty California sweatshirt there.
Father: Agreed!

Shop assistant: Can I help you?
Customer: I was looking at these earrings. Next month is my mother’s 50th birthday, and I think they will suit her very well.
Shop assistant: That’s an excellent choice! Would you like to see them more closely?
Customer: Yes, but first, could you tell me how much they cost? I was hoping for a holiday season sale.
Shop assistant: You’re in luck! In fact, we have something better than an ordinary 50% holiday season sale. This shopping centre is going to close for renovation, so we are trying to sell everything we have. Everything is 70% off!
Customer: Wow! That’s great! So, how much are they?
Shop assistant: Their regular price is 365 dollars, but with a 70% discount they are only 109 dollars!
Customer: I can’t believe it! Will you put them in a pretty box for me?
Shop assistant: Of course!

Presenter: Good afternoon. Today we have asked 5 students to give us a short interview and share their opinions about ways of getting to school. Now we would like to present their opinions to you.
Speaker A
We have a rule at our school that all students who live within 2 miles from school are not picked up by school buses. I find this very inconvenient. I live exactly 2 miles away from school and it takes me 30 minutes to walk or 10 minutes to ride a bike or scooter. My friends who live just across the street, do get picked up by the bus, even though it’s practically the same distance, just 50 yards further. I hate this rule!

Riding a school bus has been my favourite time during the school day for years.
It’s the time to catch up on all the gossip and chat with friends. Now, that I’m in high school, however, it’s different. Most of my friends drive cars to school and I’ve started driving too. Although I love driving, a big part of the school fun is gone, and that’s really sad.
Speaker C
School buses may be convenient and fun for some students, but I think they are just meant for bullying. This has been my nightmare for so many years! Even if there’s just one bully on board, there’s no way to escape if you are their favourite victim. And for some reason I always attract bullies. I can’t wait till I turn 16 and start driving to school.
Speaker D
There are four kids in our family, and all of us are school age. It’s usually our mom who drives us to school. The problem is, we all go to different schools: 2 younger twins to elementary school, my brother Rob to middle school, and I’ve just started high school. So, it takes about half an hour. I’m always last, since high school begins later. So, instead of getting an extra hour of sleep, I have to be in the car with my siblings.

I’ve just got my driver’s license and my mom’s old car! Oh, the fun of being independent! I usually pick up all my friends on the way to school. My car is an old family van, so it’s spacious. We jokingly call it our personal school bus. But here we have our own rules and the best fun ever. On our way, we listen to music, sing songs and make plans for the weekends.
