1 What type of ambulances did Moscow have before motor cars were invented?
2 Who created the system of first aid and ambulance service in Moscow?
3 What are the latest statistics about the Moscow Ambulance Service?
4 Who do you talk to when you call the ambulance?
5 What modern technologies are used by ambulance teams in Moscow?
6 Where can Moscow doctors get further education in first aid?
7 What are the plans for the future of the Moscow Ambulance Service?
A. Doctors working on ambulances in Moscow no longer use telephones or even smartphones to get the address of their next patient. They receive all the information on their personal tablets which are connected to the Unified Medical Information and Analytical System by the internet. Ambulance drivers use Artificial Intelligence to find the nearest suitable hospital and the shortest route.
B. In the past ten years, ten new ambulance stations have been added to the system of Moscow Ambulance Service. Today Moscow has over a thousand ambulance vans, all of them modern vehicles, with more than 200 new vans added in the last three years. At the Unified Call Centre, 65 operators answer phone calls made to the emergency phone numbers 103 and 112 They receive up to 16,000 calls per day, and on peak days, that number can rise to 20,000.
C. At the end of the 19th century, the first horse-drawn ambulances appeared in Moscow. While primitive compared to today’s ambulances, they marked a big step toward organized medical care. Back then, first aid was simple, and the time taken to reach patients was much longer. But it is interesting that since then, the type of medical team used on ambulances has not changed over the years and still consists of a doctor, a paramedic, and an orderly.
D. Ambulance Call Center operators are people who answer phone calls. They need to understand quickly what kind of help is needed and then choose the right ambulance team depending on the problem. Every operator regularly gets training on how to work with modern communication technology and how to talk to people in a stressful situation. An operator takes about 300 calls daily.
E. In October 2024, during the 105th anniversary celebration of the Moscow Ambulance Service, Mayor Sergey Sobianin wrote in his blog, “As part of the 2030 Healthcare Development Strategy, we will continue improving the ambulance service. The nearest plans include further development of digital and telemedicine technologies and construction of new ambulance stations. Additionally, ambulance drivers will get warm and comfortable uniforms.”
F. The Moscow First Aid and Ambulance Service is named after Alexander Puchkov, a medical doctor who became its first head in 1923 at the age of 36 Over his 29 years in this role, Puchkov developed the whole first aid system in Moscow, from establishing its rules and regulations to designing ambulance vans. He also gave lectures to students and conducted scientific research

Co-working Spaces Nowadays, many people, such as bloggers, translators, journalists and even business owners, work from home. These people don’t have traditional jobs where they go to an office every morning and return after eight hours of work. Sooner or later, they face the problem of finding a quiet place where they can concentrate on what they are doing. They can go to a library, a café or just stay at home, but these are not always the best places to work. Libraries may not have fast internet, cafés can be noisy, and at home, young children or household chores can keep them from working. Renting a private office is also a possibility, but it can be too expensive. So, where can one go to work without these problems Recently, co-working spaces have become popular in many cities around the world. These spaces offer a quiet, professional environment with everything one needs to get work done, such as desks, chairs, high-speed internet, meeting rooms, and sometimes even a coffee bar. Some co-working spaces also have small rooms for private telephone conversations. People who use these spaces can pay for a month, a week or just a day of work. Renting a desk or a room at a co-working space can be up to 5 times cheaper than renting a private office in town. The idea of co-working spaces first appeared in the early 2000s. The first known co-working space opened in San Francisco, California, in 2005 It was called “The Hat Factory” because it had originally been a hat factory before becoming a co-working space. This space allowed people who normally worked from home to work together in a shared, creative space. Since then, the idea has spread quickly around the world.
Today, co-working spaces are most popular in major cities like New York, London, Berlin or Moscow. However, co-working spaces also exist in smaller towns where it may be difficult to find traditional offices.
One of the main reasons co-working spaces are popular is that they help people not to feel lonely. People working from home often work alone and miss social interaction. At a co-working space, people can meet other professional working in their field, work on projects together, or just chat during breaks. In many places, co-working spaces also offer networking events or masterclasses. These events help people learn something new, share ideas and meet potential business partners or clients. Some co-working spaces even organize community events where members can relax and have fun together. In addition to being a great place to work, co-working spaces are also eco- friendly. Many have recycling programs and tell people to bring their own reusable cups and bottles. By sharing resources like water and electricity, coorking spaces help reduce waste and save our planet.
