A. VDNH spans 325 hectares, making it one of the largest exhibition centers in the world. It includes over 80 pavilions, 30 fountains, and multiple parks. Each year, it attracts around 30 million visitors. The exhibition complex continues to grow, with renovations and new attractions ensuring it remains a key cultural and educational landmark in Moscow.
B. A free shuttle bus with a circular route and city bus No. 533 operate at VDNH. Visitors can also take the Air Tram cable car from the main entrance to the Stone Flower fountain. Air Tram tickets cost 450 rubles on weekdays and 550 rubles on holidays.
Additionally, guests can explore VDNH using their own bicycles or scooters.
C. In recent years, VDNH has expanded with new pavilions dedicated to modern technology, space exploration, and Russian culture. Notable additions include the ‘Russia – My History’ exhibition, a digital interactive museum, a pavilion highlighting achievements in robotics and the Moskvarium oceanography and marine life centre.
These contemporary spaces complement the historical pavilions, ensuring that VDNH remains a dynamic cultural and educational center.
D. The Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy is the largest exposition, museum and recreational complex in the world. Since its opening on 1 August 1939, the name has changed several times – VSHV, VDNH of the USSR, VVC. Today VDNH is a unique space for museum and exhibition projects, international business exhibitions and congresses, festivals and holidays.
E. During World War II, VDNH was closed to the public and repurposed for military needs. The territory was used to store equipment, house evacuated factories, and even produce aircraft components. Some pavilions served as warehouses, while others provided shelter for workers involved in wartime production. After the war, VDNH reopened with a renewed focus on industrial and agricultural achievements.
F. The idea for an agricultural exhibition in Moscow first appeared in the late 1920s. It was meant to demonstrate the success of collective farming and modern technology.
Construction began in 1935 after the Soviet government approved the project. It was a massive project, involving thousands of workers, architects, and engineers. The chief architect of the original exhibition was Vyacheslav Oltarzhevsky, a specialist in skyscraper construction.
